THE BEST OF ST. LOUIS

Comedy

[Duet, Fri 9pm, SAT 2:30pm, SUN 7:30pm, $5. Adults, Adult Content.]

Siobaan O'Laughlin, Brooklyn NY

NATURAL NOVICE

One woman moves from a commune to New York City without shaving…any part of her body. As she struggles to fit into the world around her, she weaves in the stories of several different women she’s interviewed on their adventures in shaving, waxing, and everything (or nothing) in between. Natural Novice is a comedic human study of the implications of a woman not shaving her armpits, but also a feminist critique of the social structures of aesthetic, and how a woman defines herself, no matter what she looks like. “Charming.”—NYTheatre.com, "Hilarious."--Maryland Theatre Guide, WINNER: BEST OF THE FEST, Charm City Fringe.

Comedy, Drama, Physical, Solo, GLBT, Performance Art

[Duet, FRI 7:30, SAT 1pm, SUN 2:30pm

THE NEXT DOG KING

Man walks dog, dog pees and poops. Dog dares to rule them all.

A tale marked with dog urine.

"The Next Dog King" created and performed by Jim Julien. It is a tale told with dog puppets and multimedia (and dog urine) about the death of an old dog and the power struggle that ensues. A young dog, Bolan, finds himself drawn into the fray. His owner, Jim, simply wants to walk the dog around neighborhood but begins to realize he has been given a window into the secret life of dogs.

CULTURAL EVENTS AROUND THE TABLE AT DUET

FEBRUARY 6-9, 2014

St. Louis based artist Alex Elmestad presents Table, a series of events highlighting the history, traditions, and culture surrounding the table at Duet, Grand Center’s newest art space.

A table is a blank slate, familiar, yet open to creative experimentation. Its sturdy structure is designed to serve food and acts as a gathering place that welcomes both friends and strangers alike. The word "tableau" is from the French diminutive of "table", meaning "picture" or "living picture" (in reference to film, theatre, or the arts). A table is often the core of a space – a gathering place. For this project the art, conversation, and activity will be the focal point spatially and conceptually.

Essential to life, food and drink is possibly the oldest artistic medium and artists have continued to explore the possibilities of the shared meal, as well as examine the social meanings that surround the experience of dining. Table will host meals, cocktails, conversations, performances, music, workshops, and other creative activities. It will act as a catalyst for public engagement, a forum for civic debates, as well as a meeting place for public policy, community dialogue, and cultural production.

INTER ALIA_AMONG OTHER THINGS
February 8, 2014
8pm
The Helix Effect's premiere event, INTER ALIA_among other things, is an interactive performance directed by Audrey Simes. Elliott Geolat, Raii Morehead, and Paige Walden have worked in collaboration with Audrey and artist Ruben Ochoa's sculpture entitled At First Blush (2010) to create this work at Duet art gallery in Grand Center. The piece is inspired by the inner workings of the structures of human relationships, the collective conscience vs the individual mind, dance, and architecture.

Through dance, live vocals, avant-garde music, and monolithic kinetic sculptures, The Helix Effect will inspire you to become part of the art experience.
